The Lancaster City Bureau of Police Cadet Program offers a part-time apprenticeship for young adults aged 18-20 who aspire to become police officers.

  • The Cadet Program bridges the gap between high school graduation and turning 21 for those interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.
  • Cadets will gain valuable knowledge and training while experiencing the challenges and rewards of a police career. They will serve in support roles alongside uniformed sworn and non-sworn personnel.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, aged 18-20 at the time of employment.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Available to work 15-19 hours per week, including days, nights, and weekends.

Testing & Background Checks

Candidates must pass an extensive background check, maintain a crime-free background, and adhere to all laws, regulations, and policies governing the conduct and actions of the Bureau of Police.

Training and Experience

Get direct law enforcement experience!

Take advantage of this opportunity to work alongside patrol officers, detectives, K-9s, and more.

EXPERIENCE

Cadets will be trained to assist police officers with non-emergency duties and responsibilities, such as traffic and parking control, taking reports of minor crimes and incidents, and providing assistance and support to the Police Bureau as needed.

ADVANCEMENT

Cadets who successfully complete the program and pass the civil service examination will qualify for five (5) preference points, which will be added to their score on the eligibility list.
