Basic Qualifications
- Must be age 18-20.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be available to work 15-19 hours per week, including nights and weekends.
Testing & Background Checks
Candidates must pass an extensive background check, maintain a crime-free background, and adhere to all laws, regulations, and policies governing the conduct and actions of the Bureau of Police.
Training and Experience

Experience
Cadets are trained to assist police officers with non-emergency duties and responsibilities, such as traffic and parking control, taking reports of minor crimes and incidents, and providing other assistance and support.
Advancement
Cadets who successfully complete the program and apply to be police officers qualify to have five (5) preference points added to their test scores, which could impact their placement on the hiring eligibility list.
